The traditional mature cheese of the island of Naxos with a salty-sweet, spicy taste, crumbly texture and complex aromas.
In Naxos it is enjoyed plain, as a snack, with raki or wine. Alternatively, rub in oven pasta dishes , roast beef and baked eggplant. A small amount is enough to intensify the flavour.
Ingredients: fresh goat’s and sheep’s milk, from local breeds
Minimum fat in dry matter: 49,6%.
The traditional family cheese dairy Babounis has been offering us for the last 6 years this special cheese, which was awarded the silver medal in this year’s 4th Greek Cheese and Dairy Products Competition, in the framework of the Milk and Cheese Festival, which took place on 14, 15 and 16 October at the Peace and Friendship Stadium.
